Gift cards and store credit

Create a card with a balance the customer enters at checkout, or give store credit instead of a refund.

Open this page in your dashboard

A card is a 16-character code with a balance in your store's currency. The customer enters it at checkout, it comes off the total, and whatever's left stays on the card for next time.

There are two types:

TypeWhen to use it
Gift cardHoliday sales, a gift for a loyal customer, or a giveaway
Store credit (instead of a refund)When you'd rather make it right with credit to spend in your store than send money back

Create a card

  1. Open Gift cards from the menu and click New card.

  2. Enter the Amount and pick the Type.

  3. Add the customer's name, phone or email and an expiration date if you need them (all optional).
  4. Click Create card. The full code shows up: Copy code, or click Send on WhatsApp to send it in a ready message.
The list only shows the last 4 characters of each code. To copy the full code or send it again, click Manage next to the card.

How customers use it

At checkout, the customer clicks Have a gift card or store credit? and enters the code.

  • If the balance is less than the total, they pay the rest with the payment method they choose.
  • If the balance covers the whole order, it goes through with no payment, and the order page says "This order was paid in full with a gift card".

If you cancel the order or mark it returned, the amount used goes back on the card automatically.

Manage a card

Click Manage next to any card to see its Card history (issued, used on an order, restored after a cancellation, manual adjustment). From there you can:

  • Adjust balance: a positive number adds, a negative one subtracts.
  • Turn the card off for a while: uncheck Card is active, and your store won't accept it until you turn it back on.
  • Copy the full code or Send on WhatsApp again.

The top of the page shows your Active cards and Unused balance (money you owe that hasn't been spent on orders yet).

When you complete a return as "Store credit", we create the credit card automatically and email the code to the customer if they have an email address. (Returns and exchanges)
Creating a card takes the Marketing permission, and store credit also needs Orders. (Team and permissions)
