Extra checkout fields

Ask customers for details you need with the order, like a gift message or a preferred delivery time, and see their answers on the order page and the invoice.

Checkout asks for the basics only: name, phone and address. If you need one more detail with every order, add it as a checkout field.

Examples: a gift message, a preferred delivery time, a company tax ID, an occasion date, a name to print on the product.

Add a field

  1. Open Settings and scroll to Extra checkout fields.
  2. Click Add a field (1), type the field name the way customers will see it, and pick a type:

    | Type | What customers see |

    |---|---|

    | Short text | A one-line box |

    | Long text | A multi-line box, good for gift messages |

    | Dropdown | A list to pick from; type the choices, one per line (2) |

    | Checkbox | A box to tick, like "Gift wrap" |

    | Date | A date picker |

  3. Add help text under the field if you like (optional), and turn on Required (3) if the order can't go through without it.
  4. Reorder fields with the arrow button, then click Save at the bottom of the page.

You can add up to 10 fields.

What customers see

The fields show at checkout under the delivery address. If a required field is left empty, the customer sees a message and the order isn't placed until they fill it in.

Where to find the answers

On the order page, inside the customer card, under Extra details from the customer (1). They're also printed on the invoice and the packing slip.

Answers are saved with the order exactly as the customer wrote them, along with the field name at that time, so editing or deleting a field later doesn't change past orders. They're also included in the API and webhooks (custom_fields).
Fields show on the regular checkout page only, not on the quick order form inside landing pages.
